How to Think About War and Peace by Mortimer J. Adler

Reviewed by Jane Shevtsov

First published in 1944, this book is a lucid explanation of the idea of global government. Adler, a philosopher, builds up his case step by step, coming to the conclusion that international anarchy is the root cause of international war. If anarchy is the problem, government is, of course, the solution.

This book is distinguished not by powerful language but by clarity and solid logic. It lacks discussion of other problems, such as the environment, that might be addressed by a global government. It is, for most people, not the best introduction to global government. However, for those already interested, it provides excellent grounding.
